About

Veronica, the eldest of three siblings, was born in Ft. Wayne Indiana, to Irene and Richard Roberts. She grew up in a downtown neighborhood with white sidewalks and tall mature trees during the early 70’s, where children rode bikes and played hopscotch together. The family lived in a restored 1800’s era Victorian house on Home Avenue. Here, Veronica enjoyed literature that was read to her and anything she could find at a library or bookstore until a parental split brought her to a dirt farm in Augusta, Georgia, where her life turned upside down. Taking to journals, poetry and short stories for comfort and release, she earned her first accolade in the fourth grade, winning a county-wide poetry contest.

Her true love for writing didn't take form until she was about to leave the seventh grade and her English teacher passed out a list of books to be read over the summer if her students were going to be ready for higher reading assignments in Junior high. The first book on the alphabetized list was Beowulf, and the second was the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. From there, she spent the summer invested in a book when not taking care of farm animals or getting into trouble with her siblings and cousins.

When financial misfortune kept the family from sending her to college, she took a job painting houses to earn money for her own education. Two weeks into her position however, she elected to start her own business as a painter. With a business license and insurance in hand, she sought work in the commercial avenue with local property management companies and wound up putting her entire family to work before hiring her own crews and starting a legitimate business at the age of nineteen.

With the money to finish college, she earned an accounting degree from Brunswick College and soon after was married with two little boys to raise.

For all that, the love of her heart and her one escape was still in the written word. Receiving several “Poet Laureate” awards, she never stopped reading and writing, finishing her first full length fictional novel at the age of 25, which is now published and available online with Amazon and Barnes and Noble. This supernatural suspense thriller, “Nightworld Shadows”, is currently being considered for a screenplay

A self-published memoir entitled “Lifestyles of the Grits and Tameless” took off and shortly thereafter, short stories based on her young life made their way into several “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books.

Newly married to Michael Coldiron and with her children grown and on their own, Veronica moved back to the city she so loved to visit in her youth, Savannah, Georgia. Her grandfather had taken her there often as a child and her mother brought them there several times every summer. Veronica has roots in the haunted city that span back centuries thanks to a seafaring family with ancestral pirates in the bloodline, and she was drawn to the city and the ocean for inspiration.

Shortly after the first of the year in 2022, she completed her first fantasy series that she started in 2003, “The Four Queens of the Apocalypse”. The first book, “White Throne Rising” will be tentatively released sometime in late 2023, or early 2024, followed shortly thereafter by the second offering in the series, “Summons of the Shelbourne”, which will come later in the year.

When not working on her writing, Veronica can be found walking the beaches of Tybee Island or on Riverstreet in Savannah, or walking her dogs, a small Pomeranian-Chihuahua family consisting of a mom, dad, and two sons.

With an adventurous soul, she is always open to learning and discovering new things. She and her husband Michael volunteer for the Pirate Festival on Tybee Island every year, in garb. One of her favorite places in the world to visit, is St. Augustine, Florida and their Pirate museum.
